Westside Action Coalition Meeting Notes 03/11/20

1. Finance Update/Report-no changes since last month
2. Election of member at Large-Rick Ludlum
3. Police Updates-
I. Covington Police Officer Jeanne Rigney gave updates for our community. Car thefts are still on the rise. Reminder to not leave your car running and unattended.
II. Dr. Jae-Seung Lee presented his community & police relations project. Members in attendance completed surveys but these may soon be available online or given at the next meeting. Contact information: leej23@nku.edu
4. Homeless Shelter Update-
I. Compiled some questions to be asked at the emergency shelter meeting on Monday, March 16. This is a community-wide meeting at CGN at 6PM.
II. There is a board of stakeholders. Questions on who is on the board and how to be a part of this. There is a broad-based working group to examine the issue of homelessness in NKY, led by Kris Knochelmann and CVG CEO Candace McGraw. Data collection focused on the Kentucky Homelessness Management Information Systems (HMIS). This data did not include the Women’s Crisis Center Emergency Shelter, Family Promise Emergency Shelter or Fairhaven Rescue Mission.
5. Orchard Park Communication Committee Report-Fritz advised that the Board of Commission have two open meetings: The Caucus and Legislative Meetings. The agendas are all posted online at covingtonky.gov. He will find out how to attend these and possibly present on Orchard Park.
6. Keep Covington Beautiful, Saturday April 25-
i. Meet at Farney Park at 9AM. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided.
ii. Bring shovels, rakes, gloves.
iii. Let Holly or Mark know of any projects that need to be done in our community.
iv. Tree planting will be done on Holman due to a car wreck that destroyed trees.
7. Westside Spring Celebration-Volunteers and ideas still needed for April 26 from noon-6PM. 10x15 Garden plots will be available for $25 in Orchard Park. These will be across the front. If you would like to purchase these prior to the WSC, please reach out to Janet Tobler.
8. Garden Tour 2020 June 13-14th-Participants needed for the tour. You can contact Mark or Holly for information. We encourage anyone on the Westside to participate: Holman, Berry, W. Robbins street, etc..
9. Farney Park-upkeep and maintenance update-Owner is requesting rent for $800. There is no paperwork for any agreement made. Can this property be purchased? Inquiries will be made to SD1 on the water bill.

A motion was made to move meetings to the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
