Westside Action Coalition Meeting Notes 02/12/2020
Center for Great Neighborhoods 6:30-8PM
1. Sign In sheet.
A new Sign In sheet was introduced for tracking purposes: dues, attendance.
2. Police Updates
a. Robberies are up again in Covington.
i. Car break in’s, mostly unlocked cars. There were 30 in the last week. Mostly due to cars being left running in the morning or while at the gas station. Keep your cars locked.
ii. Door security. Many people are using Amazon’s Ring Doorbell.
iii. There will be a survey taken by the group next month. This is for research on community improvement.
iv. Anna mentioned that there are multiple accidents by her house on Holman and what steps were needed to get a Stop sign.
3. Westside Spring Celebration
a. Janet confirmed the date: April 26 from noon-6pm and that volunteers are needed and more involvement from the group. She is needed 3 point people.
i. Recycling, a zero waste initiative to work with Sheila Fields. Also to work with the vendors to use less plastic. Anna volunteered for this.
ii. Fundraising. For the event and to find sponsors and raffle ideas.
iii. WAC Booth. Possible Kid Zone. This volunteer could have their own vision of the booth. This will help build membership. Possibly 2 or 3 people needed.
b. Possible ideas: Pig Roast, Food Trucks. Cups and Cones was suggested as a vendor.
c. Janet stated that she’s reaching out to Westside residents/artists/restaurants for their involvement.
4. Finances
Overview provided by Treasurer.
5. 2020 WAC Election Results
a. Absentee ballots caused some confusion and will likely not be used in the future. In person voting would be more practical.
b. Discussion on electing a Member at Large position. We will keep nominations open until next month and then vote.
6. By-Laws Update
a. Last updated in 2007.
b. There is a copy in the binder to view and also on Facebook.
c. Discussion on how we can change them. There will be a future meeting to amend the by- laws.
d. A motion was made that in a period of 4 weeks there will be an online opportunity to provide feedback. There will be a 1st reading and then a 2nd reading.
7. Homeless Shelter Update
a. Reviewed CNC Feb 6 notes. Discussion on the history and what to anticipate over time. Funding and that a nurse will be on-site.
b. The city has adopted a new ordinance. This is posted on WCPO.com.
c. This will be assisting Boone and Campbell counties.
d. A tour of the current shelter can be arranged per Kim Webb.
e. The Judge Executive would like someone from the neighborhood on the board. Discussions on a Community Input Committee. Knochelmann suggested an oversight board of stakeholders.
8. Parking Study
a. Update from Feb 6 Meeting.
b. This is posted on Facebook.

9. Covington Flag Project
a. https://covingtonflag.com There are 4 ideas posted there.
10. VisionZeroNKY.org
a. 50K opportunity to slow traffic down in our community. This prevents accidents. Holman and Banklick were possible suggestions.
11. Orchard Park Communication Committee Report
a. Fritz has met with the Mayor. He will next reach out to the commissioners.
b. Mark is reaching out to the Historical Preservation Society.
12. Other Business
a. A suggestion was made to move meetings to either the 1st or 3rd Wednesday of the month.
