By now you have probably heard of Chris Smyth’s Common Orchard Project. If not, just so you know Chris has a passion to help people grow fruit and nut trees. (Just one of several of his passions around sustainability!) He is visioning an effort to help Community Gardens and other spaces gain the knowledge base to plant and maintain productive orchards or even just a tree or two. There was a trial community pruning day last year and he and others are planning for another this year. For obvious reasons we are trying to help him in that effort.
Here is where you come in.
He needs info!
If you have fruit trees in your garden space please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/Jk1Y3fMcSbhNHHWDA
Chris is looking to get as many trees identified as possible to see what the scale of this really looks like.
He needs you! If you need him!
He is looking for gardens that would like training in proper pruning techniques and tree maintenance. Please realize that this will be an effort that needs to be built up over time, but he is eager to get started! After you have filled out the form above if you want his help and are interested and willing to be involved in a Community Pruning Day reply back to me. Please make it a response that I can easily forward along to Chris, so make sure your name and garden name are in the email.
Stay tuned to this space!
We’ll keep you updated on how this is taking shape. It will likely take place later in February , so stay tuned and get ready to prune!
